Admission Requirements

Applicants must possess a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalent, or be able to pass a Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (Admission Test) as well as be able to read and write English. The applicant must also possess good listening skills. The applicant must schedule an interview with the admissions office and submit a completed enrollment form. The applicant will be notified concerning his/her acceptance after review Director. Once the student has been accepted they will be subject to the school’s refund and cancellation policy. Class size is limited based upon space availability. Efforts are made to assign a class time that fits the prospective student’s schedule. The MT Training Center is open to all candidates without regard to race, color, nationality, national origin, religion, creed. age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or marital status. The admission standards are in complete compliance with the Texas Workforce Career School and Colleges Regulatory Board, the Texas Veterans Commission, and the U.S. Department of Education’s regulations.

Day and evening classes are scheduled Monday through Friday, as indicated below. Upon completion of the program and successfully completing passing written and practical examinations, the student will be issued a CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION. Enrollment into the program begins every first and third Monday of every month.

Graduation Requirements

The graduating student must be able to type a minimum of 60 words per minute and to perform basic clerical duties. Each student must also have obtained time-management skills for patient scheduling, mastered knowledge of insurance coding and verifications, as well as all medical front office procedures

Objective

The Medical Secretary program is designed to provide the student with the skills and competencies necessary to transcribe physician’s dictation pertaining to patient care and treatment, schedule patient visits, as well as learn how to operate a front office in a medical environment. Through clinical setting, the student will learn how to work with a variety of medical documents, procedures, and terms, as well as learn general vocabulary, basic grammar, editing techniques, and front office skills. The graduate will qualify for employment in medical offices, various hospital departments, and health-care clinics. Upon completion of the medical secretary program, each student will receive a Certificate of Completion.

E-100 English- The student will learn basic grammar, correct sentence structure, punctuation and spelling, designed to provide them with the comprehensive skills needed for effective Business English. Strong emphasis will be placed on correct usage in written communications.

MO-100 Medical Office Procedures I - The student will master the role and responsibilities of a Medical Secretary, as well as the responsibilities of working in a medical front office environment. The student will build accuracy and speed in keyboarding skills.

MO-200 Medical Office Procedures II - The student will acquire skills necessary to work with office files, indexing, filing systems, patient scheduling, as well as acquire the knowledge of working in a multi-tasked environment. They will review the use of fractions, percentages, decimals and elementary accounting.

MT-100 Medical Terminology- The student will acquire basic medical terminology. The student will be able to identify the combining forms, prefixes and suffixes of common medical terms, define and spell these terms, as well as have knowledge of medical terminology pronunciation.

MT-101 Anatomy & Physiology of Structural Systems -The student will learn the structures and functions of the human body. This includes the integumentary system, skeletal system, muscular system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system and the digestive system.

MT-201 Anatomy & Physiology of Organ Systems - The student will learn the functions of the reproductive system, urinary system, endocrine system, nervous system, and special senses of the human body.

TR-201 Medical Transcription I - The student will master the use of various transcription equipment, as well as the foot pedal. The student will be introduced to the different methods of transcription.

TR-301 Medical Transcription II - The student will acquire knowledge of a variety of medical documents, procedures and terms, as well as general vocabulary and basic grammar. Emphasis is placed on transcribing various types of medical reports from dictation.
